Patchwork: From Pieces to Whole
Liran Carmel, Adi Halevy, Avigail Ogen
The creation of a patchwork is a technique with therapeutic potential for victims of sexual assault.
It may allow a person access to nonverbal traumatic memories and provide a container with concrete boundaries.
By connecting pieces of different fabrics into one whole piece, the person is given the opportunity to recount his story. It is a process that allows integration between different parts of the self and different experiences in life.
The textile work may provide a sense of satisfaction, relaxation, control, organization and internal order, and in addition invites a connection to femininity and feminine empowerment.
