The art and garden therapist emphasizes the phenomenological observation that is common to the products of both art and gardening and subjectively listens to the description of the inner experiences of the client. There is an emphasis on creative freedom of choice and a focus on active internal control.

The therapist transforms the garden space into a "therapy room", thus enabling nature to serve as an active "third counterpart" in the relationship.

The gardening therapy process lasts at least three months (a plant lifecycle). The sessions are held once a week for an hour in a defined and enclosed garden.

The sessions include conversations, planning, cultivating and treating plants, addressing social and personal content that emerge in the group dynamics and regarding events in the garden. This process takes place with an emphasis on holistic and ecological thinking, developing and strengthening experiences of creativity and admiration, and strengthening self and social awareness.

During therapy, there is a process of prevention and reinforcement of the physical and mental strengths of the client that takes place in the valuable physical presence and surroundings of nature, animals and vegetation.
