Viggo Kruger

In this presentation, I will present qualitative findings and describe techniques derived from an ongoing research project called Towards independent living in a community, a qualitative research study of music therapy practice in the phase of aftercare in child welfare (Krüger & Strandbu, 2015). Trauma Informed Care is an organizational structure and treatment framework that involves understanding, recognizing, and responding to symptoms of trauma (Bath, 2008). Trauma Informed Care emphasizes physical, psychological and emotional safety for both consumers and providers, and helps survivors rebuild a sense of control and empowerment (Kayed et. al, 2015). I will focus of what Bath (2008) calls the three pillars of Trauma Informed Care - safety, relation and regulation. I will discuss how music therapy may meet the needs of clients suffering from trauma related symptoms. Examples from practice will be demonstrated.
